EBow · Electronic bow

One string. Endless expression.

From a soft swell to a singing lead. Shape the sound with your hands.

An electronic bow changes how a guitar note begins and continues. Instead of a short pick attack followed by decay, a focused magnetic field keeps one string vibrating. You can hold a note, let it swell or move through successive strings. The three official samples introduce different parts of that vocabulary: sustained tone, violin-like articulation and arpeggios.

Listen to the shape of the notes as well as their pitch. A soft onset, a stronger swell and a percussive crossing gesture all come from technique. The sound is not selected from a list of presets. Your position, movement and interaction with the pickup help create the result. The recordings show possible directions, while your guitar and playing choices determine the response you hear.

Official EBow diagram: magnetic drive field sustaining a guitar string

Small device. New dimensions.

EBow uses a magnetic field to set a string in motion. Your position and movement shape its response.

EBow is a handheld, battery-powered electronic bow for guitar. The manufacturer calls its principle Direct String Synthesis: the drive works on the string itself, before the pickup produces the guitar’s output. It is therefore different from a pedal that processes a signal after it leaves the instrument. The fretting hand still chooses notes, adds vibrato and performs bends.

The guide grooves rest on neighbouring strings and keep the chosen string centred in the DriveChannel. That string remains free to vibrate. Holding the aligned device supplies continued drive, often described as infinite sustain. This is a playing technique, not a promise that every string, fret and setup reacts identically. Small changes in distance from the pickup control volume and brightness; changes in pressure control the strength of the drive.

PlusEBow offers standard and harmonic modes. Standard mode favours the fundamental, while harmonic mode encourages upper harmonics. Neither replaces the need for careful alignment. The how-it-works guide explains the pickup playing area, the HotSpot and the relationship between those two controls so that your first experiments have a clear starting point.

A little practice. A different voice.

Find your first sustained note. Explore movement, dynamics and harmonics.

Begin with the neck pickup and one of the middle strings. The manufacturer recommends lower guitar volume and treble while learning, because the signal can increase strongly close to the pickup. A stable first note is more useful than immediately trying every technique. Once it responds reliably, practise moving towards and away from the pickup and listen to the change.

The learning hub connects a step-by-step introduction, a focused harmonic-mode lesson and a reference for playing techniques. You can progress from sustain and bowing to string changes, spiccato and arpeggios without having to learn everything at once. The official demonstration gives another way to recognise the movement. For illustrations and further exercises, the manufacturer’s Player’s Guide remains the reference alongside our original explanations.

Instrument-inspired sounds are part of the appeal: a bowed phrase can suggest a violin, while other gestures bring horn-like or cello-like colours. These are musical resemblances, not literal replacement instruments. Acoustic guitar and bass use also need different expectations. Pickup type, string spacing and alignment matter; the FAQ explains those applications without promising a universal fit.

Retail purchases are handled by an authorized retailer, with the product page providing current price, availability and delivery information. This site presents and explains the instrument; it has no checkout of its own. Firma Muzyczna is the Official EBow Distributor in Poland. Wholesale cooperation is for dealers in Poland, with a separate route to the B2B product page.
